When Digital Print Enlargements are Considered

With all of the advances in digital technology, digital photo can now be viewed almost anywhere through any medium. Most of the time however, you are going to want to print out your photos, typically on standard paper sizes like 4X6 or 5X7. But what should you do if you have that special photo that you want to make an enlargement of? Print enlargement quality is based on your digital camera mega pixels figure. Let's look at how

Every digital photo that you take with your camera has a certain resolution normally expressed as the number of pixels in the photo or sometimes as two numbers depicting the number of pixels over the X axis and the number of the Y axis (multiplying these two numbers provides the total number of pixels in the digital photo).

You are actually printing these digital pixels on paper when you print your digital photos. If the paper size is big and the resolution is large, the digital print quality will be poor. The end result can be the ability to actually see the individual pixels on the print. This is known as pixelization.

That leads us to the question of how do you determine the largest print possible from a particular digital photo? There really is no one exact answer. Not only do the number of pixels help determine photo quality, other factors such as how much detail is in the photo or what the lighting were also play a role. Even the number of pixels can be argued as different people have different views on what is acceptable print quality.

A rough guess of what consists of a good print quality is based on the pixels density or in other words the number of pixels per inch on the printed photo. This is also known as PPI (pixels per inch) and it represents the number of pixels over an axis line.

The following qualities are generally associated with a specific PPI number:

PPI 100 - fair to bad

PPI 200 - good

PPI 300 and up - very good

The next logical step would be to figure out how many mega pixels are needed for good quality printing on a specific paper size. Fortunately calculating this number is very easy. To do that all you need to do is to simply multiply the page length by its width in inches. The result is the number of square inches on the page. Next multiply this number by the square of the PPI number and the result is the number of pixels on the page which is the number of pixels we want our source photo to have. Here are the numbers calculated for some common sizes (for 100,200 and 300 PPI respectively):

page 4X6 0.24MP 1MP 2MP

page 5X7 0.35MP 1.5MP 3MP

page 8X10 0.8MP 3MP 7MP

11X14 1.5MP 6MP 14MP

page 16X20 3MP 12MP 28MP

This table is just an estimation of what is considered a fitting number of mega pixels for different paper sizes. When making enlargements, there are many other factors to consider. Try experimenting with different paper sizes, but be careful as this can get expensive. And remember that there are always exceptions to the rules. Sometimes what is considered poor quality pixelization can actually result in a nice artistic effect in your enlargement. What it comes down to is that while the above calculation helps, common sense and experience are needed to match a particular digital photo to its best possible enlargement size.

They have been doing it for years and now you can achieve the same results with a little training and practice using Photoshop for some of these same photo enhancements.

Pixel parity. Never judge a digital photo without looking at the actual pixels. Image editors often squeeze the image down to the size of your screen (or, even worse, down to the size of a window on your screen). No matter how good the software is, it can't remove a lot of pixels and still show you the same image. Your image editor should have a menu choice for "Actual Size," "Actual Pixels" or "1:1." Slide your chair back a few feet if you need to get a longer view when you're looking at the actual pixels. And be sure to view your images full-screen; all good editors let you do that.

Sharpening is one of the most impressive transformations you can apply to an image since it seems to bring out image detail that was not there before. What it actually does, however, is to emphasize edges in the image and make them easier for the eye to pick out - while the visual effect is to make the image seem sharper, no new details are actually created. The first step in sharpening an image is to blur it slightly. Next, the original image and the blurred version are compared one pixel at a time. If a pixel is brighter than the blurred version it is lightened further; if a pixel is darker than the blurred version, it is darkened. The result is to increase the contrast between each pixel and its neighbors. The nature of the sharpening is influenced by the blurring radius used and the extent to which the differences between each pixel and its neighbor are exaggerated.

In one wedding photograph, the groom stood still at the bottom of stone steps to an historic dwelling, his hand extended towards his bride, who slowly moved down the steps toward her groom. My six deliberate 'clicks' of the shutter created an airy, surreal picture of the wedding couple. Depending on the speed of the moving subjects, the shutter can be held down in rapid fire mode or each exposure can be meticulously choreographed: 1) each subject deliberately positioned in the frame, 2) one 'click' of the shutter, and 3) repeat steps 1 and 2 to the total number of multiple exposures you set in your camera.

Typically, most of the image will be black and white while only certain objects in the image are in color. This can create a striking effect. You can easily learn this technique in Photoshop and amaze your family and friends with your photo creations.

The first thing you absolutely must do is decide what field of photography you want to get into. There is fashion photography, sports photography, glamour photography, studio photography, outdoor photography, children's photography and the list goes on and on. The market for each of these and many other types is wide open. And with those wide open markets also comes a lot of competition. Taking Away the Background

Background removal is basically the idea that you remove the background of a photograph wherein the object/objects are positioned. The nice thing about using your editing program is that while removing the background you can choose to do the entire background or merely parts of it to achieve your desired result.

Before the popularity of digital photography and editing software the process of removing the background from an image was an incredibly laborious process.

Before the advent of digital cameras and photo editing software, the removal of a photo's background was performed inside a darkroom with the required ambient conditions which typically included proper room temperature. The film was placed in working chemical solution and had to be monitored carefully. If you were not careful, overexposure of the film to the solution would result in an increase in background blur and decrease in resolution.

Today the removal of the background is accomplished with any digital photo editing software like GNU Image Manipulation Program, or GIMP. GIMP is a special type of graphics editing software that is able to support some types of object-oriented (or vector) graphics.

It is not necessary that the digital photo editing software used for background removal be able to support all types of object-oriented graphics.The advantage in using GIMP of course, is that it enables easy vector to raster conversion.

If you already use a program that supports raster graphics or use any another digital photo editor, it will also work just fine. Something to note is that you will probably see that your editors has a variety of "plug-ins which can be used to alter or remove the background in different ways. Software plug-ins are computer programs with specific goals. You typically will find that sophisticated photo editing programs use special purpose plug-ins and have the ability to perform background editing and removal based on different criteria.

Once the background is removed you will find that objects without backgrounds can be used in several different ways. You can place them in a new backdrop and in different situational contexts. The last line is important, too. So use it to tell the customer why your product is the best, or give them an offer they can't refuse like a special. This really does increase the chances of an eventual sale. Don't use deceptive wording, it might get you more clicks, but you've little chance of converting the click to a sale.

A very active retired pastor of 40 years gave me quite a caning with this Scripture 1 Tim 1.4 "nor to be taken up with with myths and never ending genealogies.. ". After I had been preaching about the death burial and resurrection of Jesus had simply made some interesting observations.

He listened, as I asked them if I had said anything that was of heresy, and he said. "No". He just would not accept it when I suggested that this Scripture was referring to the false teachings of Gnosticism and was in no way speaking of honest enquiry into Scripture.

Gnosticism had been so influential in the new Testament times, and the new Testament writings, how could a pastor of 40 years experience not know this. It is important for pastors to know these things, and to teach their congregation in order that they might understand and interpret their Bible well.

If the many pastors persist in preaching, lightweight and shallow messages to the congregation, the results will always be a people, who do understand their Bible very well. Pastors preach again and again 'moral essays' and 'warming affirmations', for this is what good Christians do, if they truly 'love' each other.

It seems that, so long as we are positive and 'nice' to all, it really doesn't matter if Christians are falling between the cracks because of a lack of knowledge.

Think about it, the more 'relevant' Christians become, to the world, the less relevant christians are in reality, to the world. :-(

There is far more to the Kingdom than 'feel good' messages and favorite topics. Teachers preach on a text from Song of Solomon as well as a piece about a man of courage from 2 Samuel; topical sermon from Luke followed by the a firm belief in god of Jeremiah or the integrity of Lot.

After preaching portions from here and from there, through the Bible we need then to put it all together in a clear, understandable way for our congregation.

But way too often, we hire an S.E.M. (Search Engine Manager), the person who does our SEO (Search Engine Optimization) simply because we saw an attractive website that maybe had some nice testimonials on it. Did you know that the majority of people who call themselves SEM's read an E-book or two and figured they learned all they needed to know and are off to the races, charging hundreds and even thousands of dollars to tweak a few keywords or phrases and maybe get a few articles placed for you?

Next time, before hiring, ask the SEM how many websites he's moved to rank top on Google with a longtail keyword or phrase. 99% of them out there never have. Try it next time you intend to hire someone to facilitate your web marketing. What is his/her own Google Ranking. What does Alexa.com think about the site. Is it at least in the top one million? Not many place there out of the billion or so sites on the net. Mine does. And it is the number one ranking Google cartoon site for "offbeat cartoon". Check it and see. I was actually learning some new valuable skills, which made me very happy, but with mixed emotions of the dozens of so called ?search engine managers? who took me to the cleaners. I could only look back and say this will not every again happen to me. And I hope not you.

My main cartoon site has been the number one ranked Google offbeat cartoon for the past three years. Before my education, it was not even ranked. It ranks in Alexa at about 800,000 and that number can be volatile. But on Google, it remains steady.
