4. Being too general. A sporting goods website might do alright, but in most cases, there is just too much competition for general ideas. Instead, look for micro-niches, like "protective sports footwear", which will have less competition and still a healthy amount of traffic. It pays to get specific. Even if you are thinking of doing this with several micro-niches, stick to one until it works, then you can branch out.

5. Giving up too soon. It`s a sad fact that most new internet marketers give up just before they could have been successful. Just because your idea didn't hit pay dirt in the first week doesn't mean it`s a bad idea. If you continue on, you`ll likely find that with a bit more publicity and hard work, you can make it happen, just so long as you stick with the original idea.

Using Custom Lists And AutoFill In Excel 2007

Excel's AutoFill facility relies on the program's ability to recognize patterns in the values that you enter. For example, say you type "Week 1" in a cell; you can have the program automatically enter "Week 2", "Week 3", etc. by dragging the AutoFill handle. This is situated in the bottom right of the cell. When the cursor moves over it, the cursor changes appearance to a plus sign (+). At this point you simply click, hold, drag in any direction and Excel will pick up the pattern and reproduce it to create automatic data entries.

Whenever you use the AutoFill handle Excel displays the AutoFill Options drop down menu just below the last cell which has been automatically generated. If the program has not entered the correct data, you can choose one of the entries in the AutoFill Options to tell it what you actually meant it to do. For example, if you choose Copy Cells, you simply get an exact copy of what was in the original cell.

Excel also has the ability to automatically enter arbitrary series of data using a feature called Custom Lists. Certain lists are built into Excel, for example, the months of the year. To use the AutoFill feature, enter the first value in the list, for example, "Jan" or "January". Next drag the AutoFill handle (located in the bottom right of the active cell) in any direction to automatically enter the rest of the custom list.

As well as these built-in lists, Excel allows you to create your own custom lists. For example, suppose you work for a company that has branches in several towns. It's a safe bet that you'll need to list these towns quite frequently in your spreadsheets. You could therefore save yourself considerable time by setting up the towns as a custom list.

To create a custom list, simply select some cells that contain the information. Next, choose Excel options by clicking on the Office button. Click "Edit Custom Lists" in the "Popular" tab. Excel lists the contents of the cells that were highlighted. To set up the selected data as a custom list, simply click on the "Import" button.

Having created a custom list, you can use it in any of your worksheets, not just the one that contained the original information. To conjure up the entries in the list, simply enter the first value. Next, drag the AutoFill handle and Excel will generate the remaining entries. When you use this facility, you are able to drag in any direction and you don't have to start with the first entry in the custom list.

You can also create custom lists directly in the "Custom Lists" dialog box. Simply click on the "List Entries" button and enter the elements separated by a carriage return. When you have finished entering your list, click on the Add button.

To delete a custom list, simply highlight its name and click on the "Delete" button. Excel checks to see that you really want to delete it. When you click "OK", the list is permanently deleted. - 15336

HTML is a markup language used to create documents designed to be accessed across the World Wide Web using browser software such as Internet Explorer or Firefox. The version of HTML in current use is known as XHTML, a stricter, rationalised version of the original HTML specification. One key thing to note about HTML and XHTML pages is that they describe the content and structure of the page rather than the position and presentation of the elements on the page.

The first difference between an HTML and XHTML page is the document type definition. There are several ways in which this specification can be made in Dreamweaver. One of the simplest is to go to the Modify menu and choose Page Properties. Here, in the Title/Encoding category, one of the options reads Document Type (DTD).

There are several options available in the drop-down menu next to this setting, some relating to HTML version 4 and some to XHTML version 1. These DTD settings specify the rules for the mark-up language so that the browsers can render the content correctly. For any new content that you create, the best specification to choose is XHTML 1.0 transitional since it uses the current XHTML specification while allowing backward compatibility with slightly older browsers.

When looking at an HTML page, the structural content may not be immediately apparent. However Dreamweaver provides a number of useful tools for keeping tabs on the structure of your web page content. One of these is called the Tag Selector. Wherever the cursor is positioned, the HTML code relating to that part of the page is displayed in the bottom left of the page on the Status Bar in an area known as the Tag Selector.

When the browser reads the page, the tags that surround text and other elements tell the browser the structural importance of each element. The H1 tag, for example, tells the browser that a piece of text is a major heading. The H2 tag surrounds sub-headings, and so on. As these tags are displayed in the Tag Selector, you can get an idea of the structure of the page you are looking at and you can also click on the tags to select the element they contain.

The tags tell the browser the structural importance of each element. However the page doesn't contain any information that helps the browser decide how each element should be displayed. This is the job of CSS Cascading Style Sheets. An XHTML page is still essentially an HTML page. However, its syntax is stricter. Let's take a couple of examples...

XHTML is case sensitive: HTML is not. In XHTML, tags are always lowercase so the H1 tag has to be written h1. In HTML H1 or h1 can be used.

In XHTML, the closing tag is obligatory: in HTML it is permissible to have an opening tag without a closing tag. One such example is a horizontal rule (hr) which creates a dividing line between two sections on a webpage. This element is represented by a single tag, since it can never be used as a container. In XHTML, there is a special syntax for such elements: a single tag which is both an opening and closing tag (hr/). In HTML, the single opening tag is used with no closing tag (hr).

In summary, XHTML is the current version of HTML and this is the standard that should be used for any new projects. However, existing projects that one may inherit may well contain HTML rather the XHTML. Therefore, one should be aware of both. Remember also that HTML and XHTML describe only structural aspects of web page content: neither of them should contain information regarding the presentation and display of content.
